hello everybody, it's dan again.

tonight was the tmbg/violent femmes show.

it was awesome.

except for a few things which really brought it down.

you'll see them clearly as i tell the story.

okay, first up was the guy from soul coughing. doughty, i didn't get his first name.
he wasn't so bad, at least better than some of the people in the audience gave him credit for. the major problem there was he couldn't play all the songs he would have liked, cause the acoustics in the room would have killed everyone, or something. fine, whatever. then he makes the audience sing along to some song, and tells them to do it this one time in an ac-dc sort of yell, which drove us (sarah, sarah's little cousin billy, phil, and i) to go half deaf.
then tmbg comes on. magical. fantabulous. wonderful in multiples. all the descriptions of a usual tmbg show, except for some technical difficulties, which caused halves of solos to disappear, and messed up a few vocals as well. but they had confetti cannons! sure, they didn't exactly shoot over us, but we ended up picking some up during violent femmes anyway. linnell was wearing blue chucks! i exclaim that because not only do i own a pair, but beth, and i'm pretty sure phil, and i would guess sarah all have blue pairs of chucks as well (though sarah is more prone to wear red, beth more prone to wear white, phil to wear boots, and i to wear my dr. martens wingtips). after they played, we went out to buy t-shirts and things. i got 2 tmbg shirts, a violent femmes shirt, and a tmbg video. and flansy came out to sign things! and i got a picture i drew at newport creamery signed (sarah's gonna frame it for me)! and my ticket stub! and i touched his shoulder! with my left hand! yay! sarah noticed a cop singing along to boss of me, which we all found pretty novel. i told flansy, cause i figured he might find it kinda neat too, but he didn't find it quite so neat, and pointed out that cops watch tv too. not rudely, if that's what you're thinking. just, you know, i kinda felt like a gigantic dork. ah well. and he liked sarah's glasses! oh yeah, and he's got some sort of moustache thing going on now, sarah, phil and i weren't so sure about that. i don't know, if he wants to, i say fine, i don't mind so much. a bit better without though, i think.
me and phil went out for a cigarette.
then back in for violent femmes, which should have been knock your socks off fantastic with tmbg having set it up. turns out, it was more like well, they were okay, i suppose. gordon gano missed his plane! they went on without him! which, while it took guts and *did* merit it's applause, was completely not what a violent femmes show should be like. me not having seen them before, and i still know this to be an absolute fact. at first, we thought "this is a trick", but no. no gordon. none. disappointed, you bet. bad dancing pervaded the entire show, but i only really noticed a lot of it while vf were playing. mostly cause we would have gone deaf if we had stayed where we were (right near the stage, right next to a giant pile of hugeness known as speakers), so we moved back a bit for vf, back amidst the bad dancing. and there was a damn staff guy who leaned into my view while tmbg were playing. i wanted to have him carried off to a room somewhere. him and the pile of stench that was some guy who insisted on standing near us and making us wish the noise had dulled our senses of smell, instead of hearing. at first, i thought it was him *and* some girls who were around us, but no. just him.
...and your stink brings tears to my eyes, eh?
a girl who works at the store across the street from my house, where i might work again said to think of her when they played blister in the sun. i forgot to, and i kicked myself really gently for it, cause i actually meant to, but it wasn't really that big a deal. anyway, i don't know that she'd still want it to have gone that way, gano being lost at sea, or sinking in quicksand, or stuck in a tree, waiting for the fire department. meowing plaintively.

i wore all my shirts over my sweater after i bought them. i wasn't cold when i got home. one's a youth sized baby blue t-shirt that i'm wearing even now, because it goes rather well with the sweater. it's not too small, actually. not really easy to get into, but doesn't give me any trouble when i get there. the other one is bigger and red. the blue one has able lincoln's head on it, the red one has nixon's. i bought the violent femmes freak magnet shirt. it's yellow. and it has a buncha pictures on it. i got the tmbg video too.
and after ice cream, the merchandise, and paying sarah most of the money i owe for the ticket, i am broke. and i went out of the house with $103, so sad. guess it's job time. but then again, it has been for quite a while, i've just been ignoring it. or, you know, lazying my way out of it.

man, i should get to sleepin.
good night, everybody.
